Katie, Michael and I met on a rainy afternoon in May for tacos and margaritas at Uno Mas in Platt Park. They were referred to me by some fantastic past clients. Michael and Katie were ready to buy their first home together but had no idea where to start. As we munched on chips and guac, we chatted about what the process looked like and what they wanted to achieve.
Michael and Katie were both paying rent in separate spaces and were ready to put down their own roots. They loved older homes with charm, needed a yard for their sweet boxer, and a basement for a mancave.
Michael and Katie noticed a "coming soon" soon sign on a house they loved. We got to tour the home before it came on the market, which was awesome! After we fell in love, we found out there was another offer on the property, and it didn't work out. Good thing too, because just a few weeks later, we found THE ONE!!!!
It was an 1896 bungalow in the Platte Park neighborhood. It has exposed brick, newly renovated, and in their dream location. We submitted a strong offer and got it accepted! After the inspection, the seller (who was also the listing agent) didn't want to fix ANY of the major issues we found. Sadly, we terminated the contract, and my buyers left for a vacation. They didn't even have time to pick up their earnest money. A week later, I get an email from the listing agent. He said he would be willing to fix all the problems if we were still interested. I called Michael and Katie and turned out they were JUST talking about how bummed they were about the house. So, we went back under contract! The seller credited/fixed all the problems, we worked through some crazy lending problem solving, and closed on their perfect space!
The universe works in weird ways, and I am a true believer that everything happens for a reason. Michael and Katie stuck with the process from start to end. We all worked through some emotional moments, and now they have the perfect home! I couldn't be more excited for these two!
